A Glimpse into the Future – THE ROBOTIC BARTENDER
Imagine stepping into a bar in the distant future. You take a seat on a high stool and order an ice-cold Weiss beer. Within seconds, the Robotic Bartender, with fluid yet precisely programmed movements, serves you your drink.
Bringing this vision one step closer to reality, the HMU Robotics Club presents its version of a robotic bartender through a cutting-edge setup.
About our setup
Traditional and futuristic elements merge in a spectacle that will take your breath away!
✅ A handcrafted wooden bar that resembles an old saloon.
✅ Two robotic arms displaying the capability of a professional bartender.
✅ A fixed bottle opener with an electromagnet to catch and dispose of the cap after opening.
✅ An inductive sensor which ensures the cap has been successfully removed.
✅ A “Pitcher Rinser” water sprayer to moisten the glass before it’s time to pour the beer.
step by…beer
1️⃣ One robotic arm firmly grips the beer bottle using a specially designed, non-slip, 3D printed gripper that conforms to the bottle’s curves.
2️⃣ The robotic arm guides the bottle to a fixed bottle opener to crack the beer, while the second robotic arm picks up a glass with a grip of similar precision.
(For safety reasons, the cap was manually removed during public demonstrations.)
3️⃣ The second arm brings the glass above the “Pitcher Rinser” and pushes it into it, moistening the interior.
4️⃣With one arm holding the bottle and the other the now ready beer glass, the pouring process begins. To avoid excess foam, the robotic arms operate with careful and precise angles.
5️⃣Once the glass is filled, the foam creation begins! The bottle-holding arm performs quick, circular motions to generate foam, which is then poured into the glass along with the remaining yeast.
6️⃣Finally, the arm gently places the freshly poured beer on the wooden bar. It’s time for the customer to enjoy a cold break!
